Ezy Reading:
Of Lost Tomatoes and Errant Baseball Caps
Evan Kanarakis

Somewhere
in all that mess of fear
and apprehension,
through hurricane torrents
that go by thy name
‘wisdom of experience’,
through the flourish of excuses and reasons
that flow forth with such weathered (and comical) ease,
pleading
(alongside this wonderful knot in my stomach,
twisted like -I already regret saying it- an ampersand)
to run, please God run-

I saw you.

Which is to say,
you woke me up.

A most unexpected evening
that commanded attention.
A happy blur of connection
elevated above the room,
with the hum of recognition that

  THIS
             IS
    DIFFERENT.

And,
with but one kiss,
I knew.
(terrified, but I knew)

And so, with reckless abandon,
I say:

Take my hand.
Because I know,
that you see, too.
Yes, we're scared,
but some leaps
no matter how precarious-
must be
worth
the taking.

Ezy Reading is out every month...
