I know
you have all
gathered here
because the doctor said
I had hours to live
And I’m grateful-
especially
to Carol
because I know a flight so last minute
must have been expensive
But the thing is
(and I feel a little embarrassed to admit this)
seeing you all here
I feel
well, kinda’ pepped up
And isn’t it so nice
to have us together again like this?
So, if you don’t mind
I’m going to hang about
just a little while longer
I thought we could make a picnic basket
head down to the park
(I’m sure the Doc will let me)
and just be together
to talk and laugh and eat
and ponder
on how pretty the town will look
come Spring

when I'm gone
