Severance |
When the bud of a poem blooms in me
the pen immediately severs my soul from the solitary
confinement of circumscribed consciousness
and the flesh that harbors death
even before we are evacuated from the womb,
like the slip of a surgeon’s scalpel slicing
clean through a carotid artery, splattering
blood and plaque
Pollock-style
across the pale-blue scrubs of my skin
and the virgin canvas of the page.
