(July 2016) The CC Photo Files: Maine

Editor's Note: After five years of appearing in The Cud, this will be the last monthly installment of The CC Photo Files. We would like to extend a huge thank you to photographer Caitlin Cunningham for sharing all of her wonderful work with our readers over the past half decade. Caitlin's vibrant and diverse photo essays were a true highlight each issue, and though we know she'll be back with guest contributions from time to time, she will be missed. Thank you, Caitlin!

Nearly thirty years ago, my godparents purchased a decaying log cabin in rural Maine. It was built in the 1930s by an opera singer from Kentucky and his wife, who turned the home into a summer music camp for girls. They arrived from New York City by train, and I can't imagine how startled they were with the denseness of the woods. I was seven when I first walked inside, and helped shovel out piles of tin cans and dead spiders left behind from the aging owner. It's now been meticulously restored, far beyond even its former glory. Each time I return, I feel like a child again, swimming in the pond, eating blueberries, and refusing to shower.
